Hello! With all of this moving around and settling down into this new quarantine situation, I honestly haven’t given much thought to board games. Looking at the prompts and requirements of this project, however, i realize that I need to design a complex game that will take enough time and effort to create multiple lengthy posts about. With that in mind, I have started to brainstorm ways that I can spend a lot of time making a game, but not make it too extremely complex and difficult for players to comprehend. Seeing that I’m at home with many MANY craft supplies and a lot of time on my hands, I have come to the conclusion that I would like my game to include both a large game board, as well as playing cards (which I will design myself). Thinking I’ll just buy a pack of cards like this so they seem legit, and I’ll use a thick poster board for the game board.

As far as themes go, I’ve been constantly thinking about ways themes that I can use that will be complex enough to create a whole game “world,” but also enjoyable enough so that I can have fun while creating it and testing it. I’ve decided that the most likely route for my game will be withing the “Sport” idea, and it will be similar to the game of life (with added twists, don’t worry) but a “simulation” of the 2020 Drum Corps Tour (an event that typically lasts 3 months during the summer, but was recently cancelled because of the virus). Anyway, I feel like I could incorporate a lot of personal experiences, twists, comedy, and competition to make this game enjoyable for myself and the people around me who will be play-testing.

  1. Your game already sounds like a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing how you build your ideas, as well as seeing your crafting creativity. Personally, I love games with comedy and competition, and I think that your personal experiences will make the game even more interesting. I think that the main thing to keep in mind is including familiar elements for people that don’t know much about Drum Corps. But I think you have a good start to your ideas!
